Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Mu Rho Omega Chapter goes green

Posted

PAHOKEE — The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. has employed select strategies to optimize our collective ability and to improve and protect the environment. The Sorority has taken on its largest tree planting effort to date. The Mu Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha is determined to ensure that those efforts are displayed in the Glades area and Clewiston.

In Celebration of Arbor Day the Mu Rho Omega Chapter planted a Sweet Magnolia Tree on the grounds of Pahokee Elementary School in Pahokee, Florida. Tree planting is essential to the environment and has many benefits. Trees serve as storm water mitigators; they help create cleaner air; reduce urban heat island effect; create healthy environments; reduce noise pollution and fight food insecurity. Mu Rho Omega plans to continue to enhance the environment with more tree planting, organized city clean-up efforts as well as shredding and electronic recycling efforts.

The Mu Rho Omega Chapter would like to thank the Principal of Pahokee Elementary School, Karen Abrams. The Chapter would also like to thank the Enhance Our Environment Initiative Chairman, Mia Pyfrom and Co-Chairman Cassandra Moreland for their continued efforts as well as all the chapter members in attendance who helped make this event a success.
