BELLE GLADE – A 21-year-old Belle Glade man was charged with attempted murder, burglary while armed with a firearm and child abuse in connection to a Jan. 11 incident which left a woman hospitalized.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report, around 4 a.m. on Jan. 11, deputies were on patrol when they were approached by a man (later identified as Jahiree Wilson) who told them someone had been shot in a nearby apartment building. As they approached the building, they could see a door open and hear a woman screaming. According to the report, she yelled out “I was shot! I was shot! Jahiree shot me!” and pointed in the direction the deputies had last seen Wilson.

“As deputies looked back, Jahiree Wilson had fled the area,” the report states.

Deputies alerted nearby units and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. The victim appeared to have a gunshot wound to the upper right thigh. She was trauma hawked to a medical facility.

Deputies began to search the area as it was noted Wilson’s vehicle was still parked nearby, Wilson was located in a crawl space under a residence about three blocks from the scene of the shooting. When he refused to comply with deputies and come out, a K9 officer was sent in. During the apprehension, Wilson was bitten by the K-9, the report states.

The victim later told detectives she had been arguing with Wilson and he left the apartment. The argument continued via text messaging. “The next thing she knew, he kicked down the door and began shooting at her,” the report continues. A child was present in the apartment, according to the report.

After receiving medical treatment for the dog bite, Wilson was charged with first degree attempted murder, burglary while armed with a firearm and child abuse.
