BELLE GLADE — Florida Highway Partrol reported a fatal crash on State Road 715 early Monday morning. A 63-year-old Belle Glade man died after his Chevrolet Silverado rear-ended a stopped garbage truck.
According to the FHP report the Silverado was traveling north on northbound State Road 715 (NW 16th St) south of Teddar Road at 4:29 a.m. The garbage truck was stopped, facing north, straddling the outside paved shoulder and northbound State Road 715 lane. For reasons still under investigation; the driver of Silverado failed to maintain safe control of Silverado and his vehicle struck the rear of garbage truck. Post-collision, the Silverado came to final rest facing north with its front wedged against the rear of the garbage truck upon the outside shoulder of the road.
The driver of the Silverado succumbed to injuries sustained as a result of the traffic crash and was pronounced deceased at St. Mary’s Medical Center, the FHP report states.
The driver of the garbage truck, a 61-year-old Belle Glade man, was not injured.
This is still an ongoing investigation.
