BELLE GLADE – A 19-year-old Belle Glade man has been charged with attempted first degree murder in connection with a June 21, 2022 shooting incident.

According to the arrest report, on June 21, 2022, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Shot Spotter activation which detected four gun shots.

Deputies met with the victim on West Canal Street. The victim told deputies he was driving a Chevrolet Cruz to a relative’s residence on Avenue A. He said he observed a black male wearing a blue jacket and green camouflage mask and another black male wearing a blue or dark colored t-shirt and black pants. He said he saw the man in the green mask began shooting at his vehicle. The victim stated he was not sure if the second man was also shooting but he heard several gun shots and it sounded as if two firearms were being shot at him.

Shell casings collected at the scene matched those collected Feb. 15, 2022 in another shooting.

During the course of the investigation, detectives recovered a Ruger .22 rifle and a Springfield Armory 9mm pistol. DNA evidence was recovered from these weapons.

On March 28, Dankwan Orris Dejuste, 19, was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder with a firearm, delinquent in possession of a firearm and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

At the time of the shooting, Dankwan was 18 years old, a delinquent in the eyes of the court, and prohibited from possessing firearms until his 24th birthday.
