Black Lives Matter group to meet in Belle Glade

BELLE GLADE — Palm Beach County activists will gather in Belle Glade to announce the formation of the “Muck City Black Lives Matter” organization, on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at Belle Glade City Hall, 110 Dr M.L.K. Jr. Blvd. W., Belle Glade, FL 33430.

The event was organized by Muck City activists Robert C. Mitchell of Belle Glade, Colin Walkes of Pahokee, Kina Phillips of South Bay, Jerry Campbell of Belle Glade, and Lake Worth-based activist Eric-Brandon Oce

A locally focused Black Lives Matter movement in western Palm Beach County, known to many as “Muck City,” will address the following issues:

• Police violence, mass incarceration in Muck City and in wider Palm Beach County;

• Local government corruption and the need for increased public scrutiny;

• Local economic injustice and exploitation;

• The need for increased community mentoring for at-risk youth;

• Environmental racism; and,

• Honoring Henry Bennett III “Scooter,” Belle Glade resident killed by PBSO in 2016.
