GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Former Glades Central student David Gonzalez is representing the Muck well at the collegiate level in baseball.

Gonzalez is the starting third basemen for the Bob Jones University Bruins in South Carolina, continuing to build on the stellar career he built while playing at Glades Central.

David helped lead the Glades Central Raiders to their first ever sweep of Glades Day during his time with the team. Gonzalez led the team in hits and RBIs in both wins against the Gators

Gonzalez's batting average was always near the top of his team during his time with the Raiders, and he led his squad in RBIs in his senior season.

His then coach, Rene Leon, was just thankful to have him on the team.

“He’s always been a very coachable kid,” said Leon of Gonzalez. “He’s so consistent and not only in hitting but also defense, Great pitcher and great third basemen. I’m honored and thankful to have the opportunity to coach him. It makes my job easier to have a kid like that.”

In his junior year in 2018 season he earned a nomination for the 5A player of the year with a season batting average of .351. In his senior season he was chosen to compete in the High School Baseball Network All-Star game, the only Raider in history earn that achievement.

Former Raider coach Leon predicted that Gonzalez would go on to have a career in baseball at the college level, and David had proved his old coach right.
