BELLE GLADE -- The Glades Day Gators varsity baseball team secured back-to-back wins to start their season.

The Gators defeated Atlantic Christian 15-3 on Feb. 23, and beat Sheridan Hill Christian 17-1 on Feb. 24.

Atlantic Christian actually took a 3-0 lead over Glades Day in the top of the first inning, but it didn’t last long. By the end of the bottom of the first the Gators were up 10-3, and they completely controlled the rest of the game. Gray Redish had three stolen bases for the Gators on the night. And Adrian Baeza got the win on the pitchers mound against Atlantic Christian, striking out nine batters.

The Gators put up big numbers on offense in the first inning of their game against Sheridan Christian as well, scoring 10 runs in the top of the first. Sheridan got on the board with a run in the second inning, but otherwise it was all Glades Day in the 17-1 rout.

Jadin Herrera led the team in RBIs that night with 3. Herrera along with Marquis Clarke, Franky Barnes, and Jyron Hughle are the team captains for the Gators this season.

The Glades Day baseball program under head coach Rene Leon Jr. Is coming off a 12-8 record last season. That record helped them secure the ability to host the district quarterfinal game in Belle Glade. The Berean Christian Bulldogs made the trip to south of the lake to take on the Gators in the opening round of the playoffs, and Glades Day took an 11-3 win in the district quarterfinal.

In the district semifinal the Gators fell to Lake Worth Christian 11-5.

Next the Gators are on the road to take on two fellow Lake Okeechobee schools. On Feb. 28 they face the Moore Haven Terriers, and on March 2 they battle the Clewiston Tigers.
