Man crashes car then runs in front of semi on turnpike

ALM BEACH COUNTY – An accident on the Florida Turnpike in Palm Beach County on May 29 is being investigated as an attempted suicide, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO).

The accident occurred at 9:14 a.m. According to the report, a man, his wife and two daughters, ages 14 and 23, were in a southbound vehicle. The wife was driving. For unknown reasons, the husband reportedly grabbed the steering wheel and jerked it to the right. The vehicle left the roadway, entered the grass shoulder, and overturned.

After the vehicle came to rest, the man got out of the vehicle, and ran into the southbound lane, in front of oncoming traffic and was struck by a semi-truck. He was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in critical condition.

The wife and two daughters received minor injuries in the crash.

The semi driver was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
