NFL athletes partner up for a Christmas to remember in Belle Glade

BELLE GLADE — On Dec. 12, former NFL athletes Damien Berry (Baltimore Ravens and founder of The Hope4Change), Wendall Williams (Houston Texans) and Michael Vick (Atlanta Falcons) announced that they will be partnering up to assist families in need this holiday season.

A Christmas To Remember will take place at 110 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Belle Glade on Thursday, Dec. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. This event is open to the public.

Nearly half of Americans reported that they or someone in their household experienced some type of income loss during the pandemic. More people are facing hardships this year due to the impacts of COVID-19, more families in the community are in need of assistance this holiday season. By partnering together we are able to extend our support outside of our local community this holiday season. They will be hosting A Christmas to Remember in Belle Glade and Atlanta, Georgia. This year “A Christmas To Remember” will solely focus on less fortunate families, children of incarcerated parents, frontline workers and local children’s hospitals within the area.

“The Hope4Change is a nonprofit organization with a mission to assist students in our community academically, emotionally, and physically. By maximizing participation in sports they develop positive values such as teamwork, sportsmanship, cooperation, listening skills and much more. Belle Glade has always supported me throughout my career on and off the field, so giving back means alot this is my way of showing my appreciation over the years. It feels good knowing I’m making a difference in my community," Damien Berry explained.

“In 2019 I opened a computer lab in the boys and girls club in Newport News, Va where I attended growing up, and my goal is to do the same for Boys and Girls Clubs all across the country. So being able to partner with Atlanta local Boys and Girls Club this holiday season means a lot. I feel like the kids deserve this. They’ve been working extremely hard to try to be the best versions of themselves. Atlanta will forever be my home, I feel like my presence has to be a part of the city, the culture. I had a great time in Atlanta and not a day goes by that I don’t miss it,” Vick said.
