MOORE HAVEN — The Pahokee Blue Devils traveled to the west side of Lake Okeechobee and came away with a road win on Dec. 5.

The Blue Devils defeated the Moore Haven Terriers by one-point, 36-35.

Pahokee senior Charles Bouie led the Blue Devils in scoring in the close win, with 9 points. Senior Kelvin Lowe was right behind with 8 points, while junior Kalil Jones had 7.

Pahokee has had a few close games so far this season, like their Nov. 30 matchup against the Okeechobee Brahmans.

Last season the Brahmans blew-out Pahokee 65-28 at OHS, with Okeechobee holding the Blue Devil offense to just single digits each quarter. But in this season’s game, the two teams were a little more evenly matched.

The Blue Devils and Brahmans were tied 12-12 after the first quarter ended in Pahokee.  And in the third and fourth quarters both teams would only put up single digits. But the game was ultimately decided by a big Brahman offensive performance in the second quarter, with Okeechobee scoring 20 points to Pahokee’s 7.

The Brahmans left Pahokee with a 49-31 victory. But the two teams will meet again, this time in Okeechobee, on Jan. 31.

The Blue Devils will have to contain OHS sophomore Oliver Saunders in that next game. Saunders put up 17 points during the Nov. 30 game.  Pahokee’s highest scorers were senior Willie Gibson and junior Marquavious McCloud who both had 10.

Following the winter break, the Blue Devils are now set to host their old rival the Glades Central Raiders. Pahokee and Glades Central tip-off at 7 p.m. on Jan. 11.
