Palm Tran to offer new cashless/contactless payment option

Posted

WEST PALM BEACH — Vice Mayor Weinroth announced that the Board of County Commissioners approved a new cashless and contactless payment program for Palm Tran passengers.

The new Paradise Smart Card will offer three options: a $12 three-day pass, a $20 seven-day pass and a $2 Paradise smart card.

“The Paradise Smart Card will not only be more expedient and efficient payment option it also provides riders with another layer of protection during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Weinroth.

In addition, Palm Tran will also implement a new fare capping policy that automatically gives the customer the best fare value when they use a Paradise smart card by converting their cash value into an unlimited one-, three-, seven- or thirty-one-day pass based on frequency of use.

Palm Tran plans to distribute several thousand complimentary unloaded Paradise smart cards during the initial rollout of the new fare options.

They will also eliminate the acceptance of pennies, which would provide efficiencies in cash counting tasks and boarding dwell times.

Palm Tran is targeting June 2021 to begin offering the Paradise smart cards and implement the revised fare policies.
