PALM BEACH COUNTY – A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. 27 near mile-marker 68 in unincorporated Palm Beach County, at 8:30 a.m. on March 28, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office report.

According to the PBSO report an unknown vehicle was traveling south on southbound State Road 25, approaching mile-marker 68, upon the outside travel lane. A male pedestrian was walking on the outside paved shoulder, at the approximate 68.5 mile-marker.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver failed to maintain the vehicle’s position within the outside travel lane, as the vehicle traveled into the outside shoulder, the report states. Subsequently, the front of the vehicle struck the pedestrian. Post-collision, the pedestrian was thrown forward, in a southerly direction, upon the outside paved shoulder. The pedestrian landed upon the outside shoulder and was subsequently struck a second time by the vehicle.

After the collision, the vehicle drove back onto the outside travel lane and continued in a southerly direction on southbound US 27 (State Road 25). The driver failed to remain at the traffic crash scene. The pedestrian succumbed to injuries sustained because of the traffic crash and was pronounced deceased at the traffic crash scene.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol , tire marks at the scene appear to be from medium size truck tires.
