Students give speeches at MLK contest

GLADES REGION — Rosenwald Elementary School in conjunction with the City of South Bay held the 27th Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest Wednesday evening, Jan. 12. Glades Region students have an opportunity annually to enter this contest to share their thoughts on various topics as it relates to Dr. King and the betterment of society. Congratulations to this year's winners:

Grades K-2 (What does Dr. King's message of love and his "I Have A Dream" speech mean to you?)
2nd Place - King Green (Rosenwald Elementary)
1st Place Tie - Mariah Muro/Layla Rodriguez (Pioneer Park Elementary)
Grades 3-5 (Explain how diversity in the Glades influences your sense of belonging.)
3rd Place - Braxton Higgins (Pioneer Park Elementary)
2nd Place - Benjamin Edward (Pioneer Park Elementary)
1st Place - Khalia Thomas (Pioneer Park Elementary)
Grades 6-8 (Based on your experience, how does virtual learning impact equality and equity in education?)
2nd Place - Christella Flezinord (Lake Shore Middle)
1st Place Tie - Aizen Halloway & Omarion Mathis Grades 9-12 (During the COVID pandemic, we are trying to navigate a "new normal." In what ways have the new protocols changes, such as virtual schooling, facemasks, COVID vaccinations and social distancing affected your life?)
3rd Place - E'Rinze Murphy
2nd Place - Jada Lovely
1st Place - Jermaine Lovely
 
Congratulations to ALL students who participated this year! It takes a lot to stand in front of a crowd, memorize your speech and deliver like you all did. Each of you are winners!
