The people of U.S. Sugar and partners provide Glades-area teachers with free classroom supplies

CLEWISTON — Over the next couple weeks, the people of U.S. Sugar and representatives from the Palm Beach and Hendry County Education Foundations will be providing classroom supplies for teachers throughout the Glades region. The donations are made possible through generous support from U.S. Sugar, which grows sugarcane, citrus, and fresh vegetables such as sweet corn and green beans and employs 2,500 people in Palm Beach and Hendry counties.

“Teachers are an invaluable part of our communities where we live and work, so U.S. Sugar is proud to help provide them with some of the supplies they need for the new school year,” said Brannan Thomas, community relations manager for U.S. Sugar. “We are always happy to give back to Hendry and Glades teachers who already give so much of themselves to our local students.”

“We are thrilled to have such a great community partner in U.S. Sugar,” said Teresa Dabrowski from the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County. “With their support, we are helping to ensure Palm Beach County teachers have what they need to have another successful school year.”

“U.S. Sugar is always there when our teachers and students need support,” said Stephanie Busin, Chairwoman of the Hendry County Education Foundation and a Hendry County School Board Member. “The demand for classroom supplies has been overwhelming, and thanks to U.S. Sugar, these teachers are having to spend less of their own hard-earned money on things like pens, markers, staplers and bulletin board materials.”

Through a partnership with the Palm Beach and Hendry County Education Foundations, the local classroom supply distributions are taking place this week in Belle Glade and Clewiston, and next week in Pahokee. Volunteers from each organization will be on hand in each community to deliver supplies, which have been pre-ordered by teachers. The supplies will be picked up by teachers in their vehicles to minimize contact and observe social distancing requirements due to COVID-19.
