BELLE GLADE  -- A threat made on social media involving Lakeshore Middle School in Belle Glade was under investigation last week.

On Nov. 18,  Angela Moore, Glades Regional Superintendent shared this message:

"Right now School Police are investigating a threat against LSMS school that is circulating on social media and has been reported to law enforcement through the fortify florida app.

"Every threat is thoroughly investigated.
In Florida, making a threat against a school, even as a joke, is a second degree felony.

"In addition to criminal charges, the District will pursue the most severe consequences, including expulsion, for any student who is found to have made a threat to a school community.

"Parents, I’m asking any student who may have information about the identity of the person or persons responsible for making the threat to share that information with law enforcement or with a school administrator.

"School police will continue investigating this incident through the evening and they will also have an increased police presence on the campus of Lake Shore Middle School.

"Please do not hesitate to reach out to our office at 561-996-4900 with any questions or concerns."

On Nov. 19, this update was posted:

"School District Police just informed me that they have identified the person responsible for making a threat against the school last night. Investigators tell me that a student has confessed. That student will face criminal charges.

"As this is an ongoing investigation, I am not at liberty to share any more details about this case, however, I wanted to share the news with you that this matter has been peacefully resolved.

"I would like to commend School District Police for their thorough investigation into this matter and their unwavering commitment to school safety and security.

"I'd also like to thank the individuals who reported the threat to law enforcement through the Fortify Florida app. Reporting threats to officials is always the best and safest course of action."
