Annual birdwatching trips begin soon

The 15th Year of Bird Watching Driving Trips at STA 5/6 is about to begin. Registration is required through Eventbrite, but you don’t need to print ticket.

Through a partnership with Hendry-Glades Audubon, the South Florida Water Management District will offer to the public escorted birding trips to Stormwater Treatment Area 5 (STA-5/6) located at the Deer Fence Public Access Trailhead. Per the governor’s Executive Order 20-139, Phase 2 of the recovery plan, please follow the specific guidelines.

Use of facial cover is recommended. Maintain social distancing. No carpooling upon arrival at the site.

Register for trips through Eventbrite link at www.hendrygladesaudubon.org For information, email Margaret England at sta5birding@embarqmail.com or leave a message at 863-517-0202. Most participants finish before 1 p.m. The exceptions will be the Christmas Bird Counts, with teams meeting at 7 am. There will not be an escorted trip on Jan. 2, 2021.

Donations are accepted by Hendry-Glades Audubon in order to help defray expenses to provide this program.

The following dates are available Nov. 7, Nov. 21 , Dec. 5, Dec. 19, 2021 Christmas Bird Count Jan. 2 (2021); Jan. 16, Jan. 23, Jan. 30, Feb. 6, Feb. 13, Feb, 14, Feb, 15, March 6, March 20, April 3, April 17, May 1, May 15, Oct. 16, Nov. 6, Nov. 20, Dec. 4 and Dec. 18.
