CLEWISTON- The Clewiston 12U All-Star softball teamearned a spot in the 2022 Babe Ruth Softball World Series happening on the Treasure Coast from July 19-27.

The 12U All-Stars advanced to the World Series tournament after winning the Babe Ruth Florida State Championship on June 27.

Clewiston opened the state tournament with a big 14-2 win with Brooklyn Sergent getting the start on the mound. Brooklyn allowed just one hit and two runs over three innings.

The 12U All-Stars followed that win with a 5-4 victory over Chiefland.  The game was tied 1-1 until  Lydia Lee hit an RBI single in the second inning to put Clewiston up. Clewiston stole nine bases on the Chiefland defense. Then, in the semi-finals, the All-Stars beat an undefeated South Orlando squad 10-5.

In the state championship game against Lutz, Clewiston rallied back from being down 6-1 in the early going to claim the state title and earn a ticket to the World Series.

According to the Clewiston Youth Baseball and Softball League, this is the first state championship ever brought back to Clewiston.

The team is currently holding a raffle to help raise funds for the trip to the Babe Ruth World Series on the coast. Raffle tickets are $5 each or $20 for five tickets.  Some of the prizes  in the raffle include a four hour guided fishing tour for two on Lake Okeechobee with DJ Timms, K2 Summit 70 quart cooler full of goodies, and Yeti Roadie full of mini goodies. Raffle tickets can be purchased by reaching out to the team’s official Facebook page.
