JACKSONVILLE - The Clewiston High School Track and Field team competed in the state Track and Field meet at the University of North Florida on May 8.

Tiger athletes finished in fourth place in the 4x1, eighth place in long jump, 12th place in the 4x4 .

“We were blessed this year to finish the season unlike last,” said head coach Jay Similien. “We are super proud of the seven student-athletes who qualified for state because it has been a while since so many have qualified for the greatest competition of the season. It was an experience that no one could take away from them. Only two of the seven are seniors and those two are irreplaceable. So, the future continues to be bright for this entire program. This entire program is headed in the correct direction and that is up.”

Two Track and Field athletes were recognized at the 2021 CHS Athletic Awards on  May 11.

Caroline McCray and Oran Singleton were crowned as the 2021 Clewiston High School Female and Male Athlete of Year.

The CHS Track and Field team took home a district runner-up this year. At regionals the CHS 4x1 relay team earned the FHSAA 2A Region 4 Championship.

“I am also proud of all of the student-athletes who participated this year because we had the largest team we ever had in the past five years,” said Similien after the season. “We went to each track meet with strength in numbers and we expect those numbers to increase for next season.”
