CLEWISTON -- Community members gathered at Common Grounds Coffee Shop in Clewiston on Sept. 22 to participate in the Clewiston Police Department’s first “Coffee with the Chief” event.

Interim Police Chief Thomas Lewis hosted the event, coordinated by the Clewiston Chamber of Commerce, as a casual informational meet-and-greet where people learned how the department works and could make comments and have questions answered.

Lewis gave a brief outline of about department staff, the budget what’s been happening over the past few months, future plans and more.

Some notable community members such as Hendry County Sheriff Steve Widden and Hendry County Commissioner Ramon Iglesias were in attendance along with about 30 people who enjoyed refreshments during the presentation.

Lewis said he planned the event as a friendly conversation where the community and business owners can communicate directly with him.

“The event went great,” Lewis said afterwards, adding that the discussion period included questions about animal control, the budget and the relationship between CPD and the HCSO.
