Florida man charged with killing mother, attacking neighbor

TITUSVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A man from Florida's Space Coast was charged Sunday with killing his mother and then going inside a nearby house and attacking a neighbor, authorities said.

Scott Main, 33, was arrested on a second-degree murder charge, as well as attempted second-degree murder and burglary with battery charges, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to the mother's home in Titusville, Florida early Sunday following a report that Main was battering his mother, according to a sheriff's office report.

Main had become agitated, and his mother walked outside the home to diffuse the situation. But Main followed her outside and attacked her again, killing her, according to the sheriff's office report.

Main then went to a neighboring home and tried choking and hitting a man inside, blaming him for what happened to his mother, the sheriff's office said.

During a hearing on Sunday, a public defender was appointed for Main, but there was no contact information listed on an online docket. Main remained in jail on Sunday.
