LABELLE- During the regular meeting of the Hendry Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), that was held on Tuesday, March 23, changes to the cemetery ordinance, a public hearing for rezone request, and the Public Transportation Grant Agreement, were among the topics discussed.

When the cemeteries ordinance was discussed, concerns regarding the maintenance of plots being the responsibility of the family came up. It was pointed out that some plots no longer had family members left to provide care and maintenance. The commissioners voted to approve the amendments to the ordinance, unanimously.

A public hearing was held regarding MSV Specialties, for the proposed rezone of property located at 4641 SR 80 and adjacent SR 80 Parcel, from Residential/Medium Density—Mobile Home (RG-2M) to Planned Unit Development (PUD) for the development of a motorhome and boat dealership. The BOCC approved the motion to rezone, unanimously.

The commission also approved the Public Transportation Amendment to the Public Transportation Grant Agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the LaBelle Airport Taxiway and Taxilane Rehabilitation. The motion to approve was unanimous.

The Hendry County Commission holds regular meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. in the Clewiston City Hall, Commission Chambers, 115 West Ventura Ave. in Clewiston, and on  the fourth Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. in the Hendry County Courthouse, Commission Chambers, 25 E. Hickpochee Ave. in LaBelle.

During the Hendry BOCC meetings, public comment is allowed at the time each agenda item is being considered. Speakers are allowed to speak for up to three minutes, one time for each item, provided a speaker request card is completed prior to the meeting. The BOCC may take action on items not listed on the agenda. If this occurs, public comment will be received at the time the item is considered for up to three minutes provided that you raise your hand to indicate your desire to speak. Comment for non-agenda general discussion by members of the public will be allowed at the end of the regular agenda for up to one minute provided a speaker request card is completed prior to the meeting.
