Linda Hunton steps off the school bus for the last time after 33 years as bus driver

CLEWISTON -- After 33 years, Linda Hunton is retiring from her job as bus driver for the Hendry County School District.

Hunton was honored at the June 7 school board meeting with a plaque commemorating her years of service.

Superintendent Michael Swindle presented Hunton with a plaque, saying it is all district employees - not just teachers - who contribute to students' education.

"So, it takes an entire village to make education happen," he said. "The job of the bus driver is one that we never take lightly and we're very appreciative of your years of service."

Hunton's co-workers shared in a letter her contributions to the transportation department, which Swindle read, commending her for her willingness to lend an extra hand and noting her value as a team member.

"Our transportation family will surely miss her," the letter read.
