Man charged with child sexual abuse

Posted

LABELLE — Hendry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) investigators were contacted by a Children Advocacy Center reporting sexual abuse that had allegedly been committed by 39-year-old Danny Lee Ringo in LaBelle.

The victim reported that Ringo had sexually assaulted her approximately five years ago.
With the assistance of all agencies involved, Ringo was arrested and charged with sexual assault with victim under 12 years of age.

On Nov. 13, 2020, a warrant for the arrest of Ringo was issued for sexual battery, on a child less than 12 years of age, a capital felony.

On Monday, Jan. 18, Ringo was transported to the Hendry County Jail. He was arrested in Texas and extradited back to Hendry County where he was booked into the Hendry County Jail and is currently being held with no bond.

We want to take this time to say that although many children who have experienced sexual abuse show behavioral and emotional changes, many others do not. Therefore, it is critical to focus not only on detection, but on prevention and communication — by teaching children about body safety and healthy body boundaries and by encouraging open communication about sexual matters.

Survivors often experience guilt, shame, and self-blame. Parents can prevent or lessen the chance of sexual abuse by telling their children that if someone tries to touch your body and do things that make you feel ‘funny’, say NO to that person and to tell you right away; teach children that respect does not mean allowing someone to do something that makes them uncomfortable, encourage open communication with your child(ren).

Childhood sexual abuse has been associated with higher levels of depression, guilt, shame, self-blame, eating disorders, anxiety, dissociative patterns, repression, denial, sexual problems and relationship problems.

If you are made aware of a child that may have been sexually abused please reach out to local law enforcement and report it.
