Suit Giveaway event planned for local youth

BELLE GLADE- According to the Giving Closet Project, “One of the most crippling problems school districts face across the country is poverty. Lack of resources, whether it is food, school supplies, hygiene products or clothing, it has a detrimental impact on not only a student’s academic success, but also their social, emotional, and behavioral growth.”

Crossroads Academy has partnered with the Giving Closet Project for a community suit giveaway on Saturday, June 5, 2021. The two organizations plan to giveaway over 200 suits, dress pants, and shirts to high, middle, and elementary school young men in the community.

Janet B. Taylor, long time community leader and organizer, announced the event on social media, inviting all local young men, including those from the Clewiston area. “Young Men beware!!! Crossroads Academy is calling you. Clewiston you are welcome.”

Crossroads Academy is a public, alternative school of the Palm Beach County School District, located in Belle Glade, with students in grades 6-12. The event will be held on the school’s campus.

The Giving Closet Project strives to help with basic needs, working with school communities and social service agencies that work directly with low income youth and their families.

“Students in our schools are struggling now more than ever from problems caused by situational poverty. These problems affecting our students range from living in unstable environments, homelessness, and access to resources,” a representative from the Giving Closet Project explained. “Our project aims to address some of the most basic problems that our students and schools face through simple, effective solutions.”
