Tasty Vibrations brings their eclectic jam band sound to Okeechobee Music Festival

Posted

OKEECHOBEE -- An integral part of the Okeechobee Music Festival has been Destination Okeechobee, which is an opportunity for Florida's best and brightest bands to win a slot on the Be Stage. This year, Tasty Vibrations will be taking the stage at the Okeechobee Music Festival.

Based out of Pompano Beach, Tasty Vibrations is an alternative jam band, with influences of funk, reggae and hip hop. Band members include Sean De Beltrand, lead singer and ukelele player, Max Accetta on guitar, Bobby Boutin on drums and backup vocals, Booey on bass, and Nick, the newest member of the band, on keyboard.

Their sound came together organically; each member had their own different influence, which has lent itself to the eclectic vibe of their sound. Max described the band's music as "Fort Lauderdale beach sound."

Max and Sean began as a duo with Max playing acoustic guitar and Sean playing ukelele and singing. They met Bobby and Booey at Awa Na Kava, a kava bar in Fort Lauderdale. After that, they began playing full band shows, and they came across their keyboard player, Nick, which helped them come up with their final sound.

"It was kind of a lucky, organic move where we just ended up playing music together and started a band," Max explained during a phone interview.

The five band members have been playing together since 2017. Their plans are to tour around the country, and in March, they're starting their first Florida tour throughout the entire state. They've been playing more through the Arkwright county area and the Treasure Coast. They've also played in New Orleans, at Jannus Live, an iconic outdoor concert venue in St. Petersburg. Their plan for the summer includes a two week tour of the Northeast, all the way to New York.

2020 was going to be a big year for Tasty Vibrations; they had a decent number of festivals lined up, but COVID-19 led to all of that being canceled. "We were pretty much booked out from January. We definitely took a big hit but once May came around and things were slightly opening up, we were lucky enough to be gigging right off the bat. We've just been grinding and we're starting to get back to doing festivals."

The band is insanely stoked to be playing Okeechobee Music Festival this year. "When we found out we were the first band chosen out of the [Destination Okeechobee] contest, we were ecstatic." They've had some members who have been to the Okeechobee Music Festival and really wanted the band to play there. "To be playing at Okee Fest, which is right in our backyard, we're really excited to meet our fans there and meet new fans."

Whether it's a festival or showcases or even bar gigs, the band plays two or three times a week, sometimes four times, depending on the weekend.

Rewarding moments for Tasty Vibrations include an opportunity to play a private party, where they got to play with Slightly Stoopid (who have been playing together since 1994 and were signed by Bradley Nowell of the band Sublime). "That was awesome, those guys were super cool," Max said. They've also played at Garlic Fest, among other festivals, and gotten to meet bands like the Expendables. Tasty Vibrations was the opening act for Collie Buddz, a Bermudian reggae artist.

"We've gotten the opportunity to open up for some great national acts and play some of our favorite venues at home. Like Revolution Live. We've been lucky enough, even from the first year of playing as a full band, to have the opportunities we've had, including playing Okeechobee Fest."

The band plans to play as many shows and festivals and release as much music as they can for their fans. They'll be playing Okeechobee Music Festival on Saturday, March 5 at 3 p.m. on the Be Stage.
