The Tigers lost 2-1 to the Falcons, who now advance to the district championship.
The Clewiston and Jensen matchup has the makings of a budding rivalry. The Falcons played the Tigers earlier in the season and came away with a 3-1 win. Despite the two wins, the Tigers gave Jensen two of their closer games all season.
The Falcons are 11-2-1 and regularly blowout their opponents. In the two games before their regular season match Jensen beat Port St. Lucie 7-0 and Okeechobee 8-0. But the Tigers were able to limit the offensive explosion from the Falcons and keep the game competitive.
In the district semifinal both teams scored a goal in the first half and headed into halftime tied 1-1. Clewiston’s goal came off the leg of senior Josue Gonzalez, the all-time leading scorer for the Tigers.
In the second half the Falcons broke the tie with one goal and punched their ticket to the championship.
Clewiston had opportunities in the game. The Tigers took 16 shots at goal throughout the semifinal and junior goalie Mario Tamayo had four saves to keep the game close.
The Tigers earned their spot in the semifinal thanks to a dominating performance in the quarterfinal.
Clewiston defeated Dreyfoos School of the Arts 7-3 on Feb. 3 at Cane Field. The Tigers scored five goals in the second half and Tamayo had four saves. Five of those seven goals were from Josue Gonzalez, while junior Emilio Rico and sophomore Francisco Flores each had one. Junior Miguel Figueroa had ten shots on goal against Dreyfoos.
