CLEWISTON — At approximately 10 p.m. on June 9 Hendry County deputies responded to a suspicious call in the area of Montura Ranch Estates.
Once on scene, deputies spoke with the victim, reporting that the victim’s adult child was receiving threatening text messages. The victim’s reported to deputies they had seen subjects in a vacant lot and in a nearby wooded area with flashlights.
Approximately two weeks ago, the victims had been involved in an altercation with 26-year-old Joshua James Cottiers and 25-year-old Adam Fernandez. Deputies responded to 436 Horse Club Avenue, where they were able to meet with both Cottiers and Fernandez. Fernandez was approached by deputies as he stepped out of his 2018 Volkswagen Atlas.
Deputies could smell the fresh scent of marijuana and could openly see several bags of packages containing marijuana. As deputies attempted to arrest both Cottiers and Fernandez, Cottiers attempted to run from deputies and was later captured and placed under arrest.
Hendry County criminal investigators were contacted, and assisted in obtaining a search warrant for the vehicle. It was at this time deputies, along with the assistance of Investigators, located several bags of marijuana with a total weight of 4.1 pounds, 248 OxyContin pills, a handgun along with ammunition, electronic communication devices, a scale and packaging material for sale. Investigators also collected $3,339 in U.S. Currency.
Joshua James Cottiers, 26, of Montura Ranch Estates, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug equipment, possession of controlled substance without a prescription, obstruction without violence and possession of a firearm during a felony. Cottiers was released on a $39,000 bond.
Adam Fernandez, 25, of Montura Ranch Estates, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug equipment, possession of controlled substance without a prescription. Fernandez has been released from the Hendry County Jail on a $22,000.
