CLEWISTON- The Clewiston High School Tigers beat the Glades Central High School Raiders 21-14 in their spring football game on May 21.

Clewiston jumped out to 14-0 lead in the first half, but the Glades Central quarterback Zo’marion Harper rumbled his way into the endzone in the second quarter to make it 7-0. On Clewiston’s ensuing possession, the  Raider defense forced a fumble which was returned for a touchdown to tie the game 14-14.

Still, going into halftime Clewiston coach Pete Walker felt confident in his team.

“I told them when we into halftime that we out played them,” said Walker. “I thought we outplayed throughout the game. Our defense was phenomenal. We had to play a lot of guys both ways. “

In the opening possession of the third quarter, the Tigers regained the lead on a 30-plus yard touchdown catch by Chauncy Cobb.  Cobb helped seal the win with a 20-yard run in the fourth quarter that helped the Tigers run out the clock.

The Tiger defense was swarming the the second half. Glades Cnetral’s Harper usually only had two or three seconds after dropping back before having to scramble out of the pocket to avoid pressure.

“Our kids were ready for this game,” explained Walker. “It’s a rivalry game. It doesn’t matter if it’s a spring game, regular season, or playoffs. Our kids get jacked up to play Glades Central. I’m just proud of the way they competed tonight.”

“When you play as a team, things will go your way,” concluded Walker.
