Countdown Campout festival moves to Orlando

OKEECHOBEE- The UFO themed New Year’s Eve music festival originally scheduled to take place in Okeechobee next month is moving to a different location.

Countdown Campout is now being held in Orlando on Dec. 31, and there will no longer be any camping.

In a email to ticket holders and in an announcement on social media, festival promoters said that due to staffing and logistics issues the New Year’s Eve festival will be moving from the Sunshine Grove in Okeechobee to the Orlando Amphitheater. Those who had already bought tickets to the Okeechobee Countdown Campout will be upgraded to VIP for the Orlando Invasion, or offered a refund.

Refunds must be requested by Nov. 29 and will be processed in as little as 30 days. Since the Orlando location will have no camping, all camping add-ons will be refunded in full.

The news was a downer to many who were looking forward to the event. On the Okeechobee Music Festival subreddit, those who had bought tickets to the Countdown Campout expressed frustration at the unexpected venue change, and especially at the lack of camping.

“The camping aspect was the biggest draw,” said one Reddit user. “Super bummed.”

Others pointed out that now, instead of walking back to their tent after the festival, they’d have to deal with the headache of trying to find a ride home after midnight on the hectic and jam-packed Orlando roadways.

No UFO’s will be invading the Sunshine Grove this year. But the grove will welcome visitors again beginning on March 3 when the  2022 Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival kicks off.
