SEBRING  -- Opportunities for COVID-19 vaccinations are expanding, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced in a press conference in Sebring today (March 4).

Four federally-supported coronavirus vaccination sites opened in Florida on March 3. The sites in Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville and Miami will be open at 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily. They will be able to administer up to 3,000 vaccines per day.

“The federal government has said anyone who works in the school system, regardless of age,” DeSantis said. He said school personnel can go to the federal sites or sign up online for appointments at pharmacies following the federal guidelines for vaccinations even if they are under the age of 50.

He said the state vaccination pods will continue to concentrate on those over the age of 65, along with teachers and first responders who are over the age of 50.

Pharmacies in Florida will also vaccinate those with a signed Determination of Extreme Vulnerability statement from their doctor.

“Once we get a critical mass of seniors, the demand starts going down, we will lower the age,” he said of the state vaccination sites.
