FHP investigating fatal head-on crash on U.S. 27

GLADES COUNTY -- A Fort Lauderdale man driving the wrong way on U.S. 27 in the early morning hours of Jan. 29 was involved in a fatal head-on crash that took the lives of three adults and one unborn child.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, at 1:14 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, a Lexus SUV, driven by at 37-year-old Fort Lauderdale man, was traveling north on US 27 in the southbound lanes, south of County Road 773.

A Jeep Compass was traveling south on US 27, south of County Road 773, in the southbound left lane.

The front of the Lexus collided with the front of Jeep.

Post collision, the Lexus came to rest on US 27. The Jeep overturned and erupted in flames.

A 28-year-old female passenger in the Lexus was killed in the crash. The Lexus driver was seriously injured.

The male driver of the Jeep and a female passenger in the Jeep were pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger’s unborn child was also a fatality. FHP has not released any other information about them.

 The crash remains under investigation.
