Football around the lake this week: Oct. 1

Posted

  • Clewiston Tigers (2-0)

The Clewiston Tigers are finally back in action again this week. The team has played an on-again, off-again schedule in the early part of the season due to covid exposures, first on their team and then their opponent. On Sept. 17 the Tigers beat Calvary Christian Academy 38-23. Now the challenge will be to keep that momentum going after the bye last week as they now travel  to face the 2-2 Avon Park Red Devils on Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m.

  • Glades Central Raiders (3-1)

The Glades Central Raiders are fresh off their bye week and ready to get back to work. Their last game on Sept. 17 saw the Raiders wallop Santaluces 45-6. Next they host the 1-3 Carol City Chiefs in Belle Glade on Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m.

  • Pahokee Blue Devils (3-1)

The Pahokee Blue Devils lost a heartbreaker last week, falling 35-34 to Palm Beach Gardens on Sept. 24. Pahokee led by two scores late in the third quarter, but Palm Beach Gardens punched in two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter to go up by one point and the Blue Devils couldn’t respond. Next the Blue Devils travel to face an Okeechobee team still trying to find its rhythm on offense The Blue Devils kickoff against Okeechobee on the road at 7 p.m. on Oct. 1.

  • Glades Day Gators (3-1)

The Glades Day Gators had to reschedule their game against Lake Placid after bad weather forced the two teams off the field on Sept. 24. The Gators finished their Lake Placid game on Sept. 27, winning big 42-19. The Gators are having their best season in years and look to be building momentum at just the right time. Next they face a rebuilding Moore Haven program on the road on Oct. 1 at 6 p.m.

  • Okeechobee Brahmans (0-3)

The Okeechobee Brahmans fell to Frostproof 28-0 on Sept. 24. Similar to Clewiston, the Brahmans have also had an on-again, off-again start to their season due to bad weather and covid. But the time spent away from the gridiron has had a bigger effect on the young Brahman squad, who need every rep they can get to build chemistry. It won’t get any easier this week when the Pahokee Blue Devils come to town during the Brahman homecoming week. Okeechobee and Pahokee kickoff at 7 p.m. on Oct. 1.

  • Moore Haven Terriers (0-1)

The Moore Haven Terriers are rebuilding this year and playing a reduced schedule. The Terriers lost their opener to Santa Fe Catholic 46-6 on Aug. 27. They’ll finally take the field again this week. The bad news? They’ll face a red hot Glades Day squad looking for some revenge. Moore Haven has had the Gators’ number in the last 3-4 years. But they’ll have their hands full this week. The Terriers and Gators kickoff at 6 p.m. on Oct. 1.
