Moore Haven man killed in SR 78 crash

ORTONA -- A 37-year-old Moore Haven man was killed in a traffic accident on State Road 78 on May 2, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

At around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, a pickup truck was traveling north on Ortona Road, approaching the intersection of State Road 78. At the same time, a dump truck was traveling east on State Road 78, approaching Ortona Road.

According to the FHP report, the pickup truck driver failed to stop for the stop sign and entered SR 78 in the direct path of the oncoming dump truck. The front of the dump truck collided with the pickup.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to Hendry Regional Hospital and later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the dump truck, a 31-year-old Lehigh Acres man, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
