FLORIDA — Most of Florida is now considered at “high” risk for COVID-19 according to the Centers for Disease Control.

The CDC map issued July 1 shows Glades, Hendry, Putnam, Franklin, Calhoun, Washington and Walton Counties are at “medium” risk with the rest of the state at “high risk.”

The CDC uses a combination of factors including new hospital admissions for covid, availability of ICU beds, percent of hospital beds occupied by covid patients and the new case positivity rates to determine the risk level for each county.

The CDC advises everyone to stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations, get tested if you have symptoms and wash your hands thoroughly and frequently.

Those in areas of medium risk are advised to talk to their health care providers about whether they need to wear a mask.

Those in high risk areas are additionally advised to wear masks in public areas where you cannot maintain 6 feet of distance from those who are not members of their immediate household and that additional precautions may be needed for those at risk for severe illness.

According to the Florida Department of Health, for the week of June 24-30, new COVID-19 cases and new positivity rates for South Central Florida Counties included:

• Collier County: 747 new cases, 18.7% new positivity.

• Glades County: 5 new cases, 7.3% new positivity;

• Hendry County: 71 new cases, 9.2% new positivity;

• Highlands County: 293 new cases, 19.3% new positivity.

• Martin County: 445 new cases, 19.9% new positivity;

• Okeechobee County: 83 new cases; 14.9% new positivity;

• Palm Beach County: 4,481 new cases; 18.5% new positivity.
