The monthly Community Association of Buckhead Ridge met on Tuesday, March 28 with 95 members and visitors present. The meeting opened with a report by Sheriff’s Lt. Patrick Willis informing the group of a comfortable month with few calls. Some included loud music, theft of a few welfare checks, and speeding on State Road 78. Willis also took several questions from the audience.

Glades County Supervisor of Elections Aletris Farnum, asks those who have not signed up to vote or have a correction needed in their records to do so as soon as possible. Elections in 2024 will be very crowded and early preparation helps it run smoothly.

Glades Tax Collector Lorie Ward is accepting late applications for cards to sign up for information about tax deduction eligibility. That category has expanded the listings of eligibility.

The BHR Mosquito Control Board is still awaiting word from the state about helping Glades County to get a harvester to help keep BHR canals clean. They urge those living on a canal to keep their area clean of overhanging trees and removed branches; and never throw mown grass clippings, etc. into the canals.

Commissioner Tim Stanley reported Glades is accepting applications for a new County Manager. The county is also working on getting garbage pickup for BHR. The office of Code Enforcement is still open, applications for the position are being accepted.

Work on re-activating the Volunteer Fire Department is ongoing. Once operating, they will be hiring five dispatchers. If you are interested, please contact Commissioner Stanley at 863-632-9891.

Vickie Anderson, Association Secretary, announced a Day of Cleanup the end of April. Please stop in her office beside the fire station and let her know you will help.

The Pot Luck Dinner – a staple at each meeting – saw an overwhelming amount of food, which somehow vanished in a short time. The 50/50 at the end of the meeting paid the winner $90.
