Summer Work Program helps youth learn and earn

LABELLE- An innovative and successful program that focuses on promoting career development while providing on the job paid work experiences, the Summer Work Program (SWP) is open to youth between the ages of 14-21 who reside in Hendry, Glades, and Lee counties. Sponsored by Prolific Learning Corp. (PLC), program participants will have the opportunity to work in various job positions, for a term of 8 weeks, during the summer months.

Those who have a 504 Plan, Individual Educational Plan (IEP), or meet income requirements, and desire to participate in the Summer Work Program (SWP) will also be provided an opportunity to gain meaningful work experiences designed to assist with preparation for today’s workforce.

Program participants may work a maximum of 30 hours per week and will be paid $9.00 per hour.

PLC sponsors this program, in order for participants to gain resourceful tools for use in today’s work industry, while also impressing upon their young minds that work is good, necessary and will provide financial sustainability. They also learn that working is not only positive for themselves and their families, it also contributes to economic growth and the well-being of their community.

To be considered for the SWP, hopeful participants must complete an application packet. Packets can be obtained at 462 E. Cowboy Way, #1 LaBelle, FL 33935 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The deadline for completed application packets is Friday, May 7, 2021, by 4:00 p.m.
