Engine No. 148 will haul the first cane of the company’s 91st harvest season from field to mill

CLEWISTON -- The City of Clewiston invites the public to view U.S. Sugar’s historic steam locomotive Engine No. 148 as it hauls the first cane of the company’s 91st harvest season from field to mill on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 between 9:30 - 10 a.m.

The train will depart 1st Avenue and Florida Ave. NW in Moore Haven at approximately 9:30 a.m. and pull south through Clewiston over U.S. 27 to the Clewiston Sugar Factory.

Between  noon and 5 p.m. No. 148 will be under steam and on display for the general public at the Sugar Express facility at the corner of Basilan Crescent and South Deane Duff Ave.

Members of the community may safely view the Sugar Express from any public property.


Note: Please remain at least 25 feet away from the railroad track at all times.

The Sugar Express will travel near or over the following intersections:

Park Avenue and Yaun Road (Moore Haven) Langdale Road (Moore Haven)

State Route 720 (Moore Haven and Clewiston) San Luiz Avenue (Clewiston)

South Olympia Street (Clewiston) WC Owen Avenue (Clewiston) South Francisco Ave.
