What’s going with the TV news?

It is the job of the TV news to dumb down the population as much as possible by skimming the sensationalist surface of events. The daily and nightly news, along with TV programming in general, provide an endlessly entertaining visual picture of life without providing details.

The second endeavor of the TV news is to sell products and services using lots of highly entertaining commercials.

The third major project of TV news, media in general, and their parent companies is to hide inconvenient truths and shun in-depth analysis. If corporations know the truth, they certainly aren’t going to tell it. For example, war is bad, but telling how it gets started is not our thing.

The fourth job of the media and the larger private sector is to serve as the tool of the celebrity class—our modern aristocracy. Media focuses on celebrity lives and the amassing of fortunes while everybody else’s lives are increasingly impoverished. Sadly, this works to reverse what public education tries to teach young people about democracy, that everybody matters.

The fifth goal of the American news industry and their pals is to make bank for themselves. No explanation needed.
