The Pee Wee Calf, Beef Breeding and Market Steer Show were held on Tuesday, February 14 at the LaBelle Rodeo Grounds. The show consisted of pee-wee, 4-H and FFA members showing their calves, bulls, heifers, and steers. Mr. Jim Selph of Arcadia, Florida served as the official judge for the evening. The pee wee show was sponsored by Ragin Graphics, the beef breeding show was sponsored by TriEst Irrigation, and the steer show was sponsored by Family Eye Care.

The beef breeding critters were judged on size, growth potential, muscle, balance, structural correctness, capacity, and sex characteristics. The steers were judged on muscling, correctness of finish, balance, capacity, size, as well as carcass desirability. Showmanship was judged on the ability to exhibit an animal to its best advantage, as well as the overall care and training of the animal. The exhibitors were also judged on control, presentation to the judge, awareness of the judge, as well as knowledge of the specie. Planning, practicing, and neat appearance will assist the exhibitor in being successful.

In the Steer Division Madison Murrah achieved the Reserve Champion award.

In the Beef Breeding division: Kaydence Tindall captured the Grand Champion Award with Gwendolyn Ash achieving the Reserve Champion award. Kaydence is a member of the Double H Livestock 4H Club and Gwendolyn is a member of the Felda Community Pioneers 4H Club and Clewiston FFA.

In the Steer division: Ty Murray captured the Grand Champion award with his steer weighing in at 1,346 lbs. Ty’s steer was purchased by Okeechobee Livestock Market. Madison Murrah achieved the Reserve Champion award her steer weighing 1,073 lbs and was purchased by C & B Farms. The Hendry County Bred Champion was awarded to Dustin Padgett. Dustin’s steer weighed in at 1,293 lbs and was purchased by Pack Brothers Irrigation. The breeder of Dustin’s steer was Renney Lietz.

In the Steer Division Ty Murray captured the Grand Champion award and he took first place in the Junior Showmanship Division.

Ty took first place in the Junior showmanship division with Gracie Swails capturing second place. Kaydence captured the first place award with Madison achieving the second place award in the Intermediate showmanship category. Gwendolyn achieved the first place award in the Senior showmanship division. Furthermore, the first place average daily gain award went to Madison with Ty placing second. Ty, Madison and Dustin are members of the A-1 Steer Club. Gracie and Gwendolyn are members of the Felda Community Pioneers 4H Club. Gwendolyn is also a member of the Clewiston FFA.

The sponsors of the events are greatly appreciated as well as the LYL committee, 4-H/FFA leaders and parents. All of the exhibitors did a great job exhibiting their critters. The A-1 Steer 4-H Club is led Patricia McGill, the Double “H” Livestock 4-H Club is under the direction of Carl and Diane Pendry, the Felda Community Pioneers is led by Jesse and Stephanie Dunaway and the Clewiston FFA Chapter is led Jennie Goeff. Ms. Corey Hendry provided leadership to the Pee Wee calf exhibitors.
