Barron Park was buzzing with activity on Saturday, February 2, as dedicated volunteers served up lots of mouthwatering pulled pork and fixings, at the 7th Annual Cooking for a Cure benefit. Focused on saving and celebrating more lives, 100 percent of the proceeds of this event went to Relay for Life LaBelle, a cause that is part of a larger, global movement started by the American Cancer Society, to fight for a world without cancer. The funds are used to support cancer research, patient support, detection, treatment, prevention and education.

DJ Mike LX was there to keep everyone’s toes tapping and the mood upbeat; several of the relay teams were seen line dancing to his jams throughout the day. Our town’s beloved clown, Mary Bartoshuk was there blowing bubbles and dancing with the kids. There were various vendor booths, kid’s crafts, a yard sale, and tables full of yummy baked goods. Satisfied “mmmms” and “yummms!” were heard, coming from the pavilion, where people were dining.

The delicious meal was made possible by these always-generous, favorite, local businesses: Two Peas Café, Forrey Grill, Log Cabin, The Quart House, McDonald’s, and Walmart. What a wonderful community this is, y’all!
