Shellie Johnson plans to address the Barron Park Master Plan at her last meeting in March as LaBelle City Planner.
On February 8, Johnson announced her time serving as City Planner will end later this month. She notified the City Commission her employment with En-Site is ending which means she will no longer be LaBelle’s City Planner.
Johnson told the Commission she will be at the March meeting to “finish up some loose ends.”
Johnson, who served as City Planner for the past 11 years, thanked the City Commissioners for a “wonderful experience.”
“I often have to remind myself I’m not an employee of the city because you’ve been so wonderful to me,” said Johnson, “It’s easy to forget.”
Johnson told the commission she will be in LaBelle “locally and will be available to help with the transition for whatever is next.”
Mayor Dave Lyons expressed his thanks to Johnson for her service as City Planner and in the community.
“Shellie has been great to us,” said Lyons, “Not only is she our city planner, she moved here, she became one of our residents, and one of our movers and shakers in the downtown.”
“For that I’m grateful,” he added.
Commissioner Julie Wilkins told her fellow commissioners she met with Johnson about the Baron Park Master Plan because she keeps getting asked about it and said “we need to do something.”
Wilkins wants to have a plan for Baron Park and start phasing things in.
“I would like to set a hearing date to look at the conceptual plan and make some decisions,” said Wilkins, “We need to know if we should invest in current assets.”
Wilkins asked Johnson what her thoughts were on the Baron Park Master Plan.
“I should bring it to the March meeting,” said Johnson.
“Since Shellie is leaving us after that it would be a really good idea to catch it while she is here,” said Wilkins, “I would like to have the Baron Park Master Plan on the March agenda.”
Commissioner Wilkins told the commission the project is “technically done as far as consultants go.”
Johnson responded to Wilkins and said, “I plan to stay involved.”
