Jennifer Johnson is the new Executive Director of the Caloosa Humane Society and the Caloosa Veterinary Clinic: “My love for animals started at a very early age. I grew up as an only child on a hobby farm in western Wisconsin so my closest companions were all the animals. As a kid I was convinced that all our animals could talk, so in the mornings I would very quietly sneak into the barn to try and listen if they were having secret conversations. Of course that never happened, but it didn’t stop me from having a deep seated passion for animals for the rest of my life,” says Jennifer.
“I have been a Veterinary technician for over 24 years. During this time I have been part owner of a veterinary practice which is when I started working with the local humane societies, that’s when I started focusing more on animal welfare. Florida is perfect for me and my daughters because although we loved Wisconsin, the winters were getting a little too cold. Plus, I am the Executive Director of both the Humane Society and the Veterinary clinic, so I can combine my love for animal rescue with veterinary technician, its perfect!” Jennifer said.
“I haven’t seen a gator yet”, Jennifer says jokingly, “But I love the southern hospitality, everybody’s been so kind and helpful and everybody says ‘Yes ma’am’ and ‘Thank you, ma’am’, I love it and I am excited to be here!”
If you want to meet Jennifer and the new board members, or just pet some cute animals. The Caloosa Humane Society is having a BBQ on June 22 from 4-6 p.m. at the shelter at 1200 Pratt Blvd, LaBelle.
