One of the best things we can do to up our happiness level is to fulfill the longing that we all have to make some sort of contribution. Whether it’s giving money to your favorite charity or cause, or donating your time to help an organization that brings healing or empowerment to a sect of society that needs help voicing their needs, when we spend time in the energy of giving back it triggers a part of our brain that inherently knows that we are all connected.
We talk a lot about making a difference and doing good in the world but when our lives are examined, I wonder, are our actions congruent with the words we speak?
If you’re feeling a little down and out I suggest you spend some time helping someone who is less fortunate than you are. Maybe take some of the clothes you aren’t wearing anymore and donate them to a place that gives clothes to the homeless. Or maybe volunteer at a food pantry, or make a donation to a cause that you believe in. There’s not greater way to reframe your thoughts about how blessed you are then to spend time giving to people who are less fortunate.
When we do this our gratitude muscles get a little workout and then we start resonating at the frequency of ‘thank you’ which sets our focus and awareness to more and more things for which we have opportunities to give thanks.
It’s amazing how quickly giving can shift our energy and move us into a space of happiness, joy, and bliss.
