LaBelle Downtown Revitalization Corporation and MOPS of LaBelle invite the community to their first ever “Scarecrows on the Wharf” event taking place on Desoto Avenue from October 13-October 31. Local businesses, non-profits, community members, organizations, schools, and youth groups like Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4-H can join the fun by creating scarecrows to be displayed at the wharf during the event. Four-foot-wide by four-foot-deep spaces are available for charitable donations of $50 for businesses or organizations or $20 for non-profit organizations. Proceeds from the event will be split 50/50 between the LaBelle Downtown Revitalization Corporation and MOPS of LaBelle. Prizes will be awarded by a team of celebrity judges on Saturday, October 27. People’s Choice Awards are determined by attendee votes from October 13 through 27. Winners receive a prize and will be identified by signs posted to their display site and in media releases. “I’m excited to bring this event to LaBelle,” said Megan Narehood, Coordinator of MOPS of LaBelle, “I enjoy the Scarecrows in the Park event Lakes Park hosts but love that we get to host our own event with the bonus of being by the river.” Narehood said it will be a great addition to the annual pumpkin patch hosted by the First Baptist Church. The deadline for registration and donation is October 13. Teachers, scout leaders, business owners and anyone interested in participation should email KELLY@DOWNTOWNLABELLE.COM OR MOPSOFLABELLE@GMAIL.COM for more details.
