CLEWISTON -- The Clewiston Police Department has updated an earlier story about a robbery that occurred at 9:30 a.m. March 29 at First Bank in Clewiston:

Responding officer, Officer Rebecca Myers recognized the male in the bank video as possibly being Antonio Sanchez-Sanchez, 57 years of age, from Clewiston. 

Sanchez-Sanchez resides in close proximity to the bank. Officers made contact with Sanchez-Sanchez just outside his residence. He matched the description and officers discovered that he had 10 crisp $100 bills in his possession. He was later transported to the Clewiston Police Department for questioning.

Detectives along with assistance from the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit and the FBI served a search warrant on Sanchez-Sanchez’s residence in the 300 block of San Benito Street, Clewiston.

Detectives discovered the remaining stolen cash hidden inside a pillow, the blue bag used to carry out the stolen cash, as well as clothing items he wore and the walkie-talkie used to depict a weapon during the robbery. All of the items were seized per the search warrant.

Sanchez-Sanchez was placed under arrest and charged with Armed Bank Robbery. The investigation is still on-going. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Williams at (63-983-1474.

On March 29, 2022 at approximately 9:30am, officers responded to First Bank, located at 300 East Sugarland Highway in reference to a report of a bank robbery. Officers learned that a Hispanic male, approximately 5’5” in height, wearing a camouflage patterned hat, face mask, orange vest, and blue jeans demanded money from the bank teller. An unknown weapon was implied under the clothing during the incident. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the male fled on foot.

Officers along with deputies from the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office searched the area and were not able to locate the male. Members of the Clewiston Police Department and Crime Scene Technicians from the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office processed the scene for evidence.
