WHAT: Shelters for those needing it during the event of Hurricane Irma are open Friday, September 8, 2017 beginning at 8am on the west side of the County.
Due to the evacuations of the City of Clewiston, Hookers Point, Harlem, Flaghole, Montura Ranch Estates and the communities located within the Mid-County MSBU which includes Ladeca, Pioneer Plantation and Leon-Dennis Subdivision (Al Don Farming Road), there will be no shelters open in Clewiston.
The County is working with local and State leaders to provide additional shelters within the region.
If residents in the evacuation zone plan to evacuate to one of these shelters, they are asked to bring their own bedding along with a gallon of water per person, per day and enough food for 3 days as well as any prescription medications they need.
All evacuees are encouraged to take all important, personal documents and identification.
All residents in the evacuation zone are asked to use shelters as a last resort.
If you need to evacuate and have the means to evacuate to somewhere that is not a shelter or know someone you can stay with, please take advantage of these options and do not fill shelters as space is limited.
WHEN: Friday, September 8, 2017, 8am
WHERE:
These shelters are not pet friendly, however, service animals are allowed.
Persons with special needs must have a caretaker with them while staying at the shelter.
WHY: For those seeking shelter in preparation of Hurricane Irma.
