Avon Park Air Force Range to hold Policy Committee Meeting March 8

Posted

AVON PARK — The Central Florida Regional Planning Council (CFRPC) is working with the Avon Park Air Force Range (APAFR) to develop a Compatible Use Plan (CUP) with the counties of Polk, Highlands, Okeechobee, and Osceola and the Cities of Avon Park, Frostproof, and Sebring. This cooperative planning effort will provide an update to the 2010 Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) with a renewed focus on promoting communication and collaboration. This cooperative planning effort will provide updated data and analysis to support policies designed to promote public health, safety and welfare while safeguarding the military mission of the APAFR.

The Policy Committee, representing elected officials from the above jurisdictions, the APAFR, and affected agencies, are responsible for the overall guidance of the CUP, approval of draft and final written reports, approval of policy recommendations, and monitoring the implementation of adopted policies. A Working Committee of staff from each of these jurisdictions and agencies will ensure the plan is based on accurate information about each jurisdiction.

The Policy Committee will be held at the Avon Park Air Force Range, 29 South Boulevard in Avon Park in building 28, on Tuesday, March 8, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Base Commander of the APAFR will present an overview of the range operations. They committee will also be discussing the Scope of Work for the CUP, implementation accomplishments of the 2010 JLUS, military impacts to Florida’s economy, the public involvement plan and the responsibilities of the Policy Committee.

If you have any questions about the Compatible Use Plan, please contact Jennifer Codo-Salisbury, Planning Director, CFRPC, at 863-534-7130, Ext. 178 or at jcodosalisbury@cfrpc.org.
