Palmetto woman dies in crash on SR 70 in Highlands County

 HIGHLANDS COUNTY -- A 21-year-old Palmetto woman was killed and three others were seriously injured in a traffic accident on State Road 80 in Highlands County on Sept. 17 at 3:36 p.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, a sedan driven by a 30-year-old Bradenton man, was traveling east on State Road 70, approaching Robert McGee Road. The 21-year-old Palmetto woman was a passenger in the car.

A pickup truck, driven by a 67-year-old Ruskin man was traveling west on State Road 70, west of Robert McGee Road, the FHP report states.

The sedan crossed the center line, the report continues. The front left of the sedan collided with the front of the pickup truck. The sedan was redirected to the west and came to rest on the eastbound lane of State Road 70. Post collision, the pickup traveled off of the roadway and collided with a barbed wire fence.

The passenger in the sedan was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced deceased. The crash remains under investigation.

The two drivers and a passenger in the pickup truck were seriously injured.
