Plan ahead for Electric Daisy Carnival

Posted

ORLANDO -- Electric Daisy Carnival just keeps growing.

Ever since arriving in Orlando in 2011, the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) has proved to be a bigger and better experience each year. This year is looking to be no disappointment.

As we approach the festival weekend, many local festival goers and businesses alike are making the appropriate preparations for the upcoming downtown takeover.

Hotels throughout the downtown and surrounding areas are filling up quickly. Locals with listings on popular sites such as airbnb are seeing a huge uptick in reservations. Some locals who live within walking distance of Tinker Field are planning on making some extra cash by charging festival goers to park daily on their property.

Orlando is no stranger to tourism -- it makes up roughly one-third of the city's economy. However, a large portion of its tourism capacity lies near the parks, something the festival and the city have not forgotten.

There are currently plans for a shuttle service to run to hotels in the Universal/I Drive area. The festival staff strongly recommended ordering your shuttle pass as soon as possible as they will most likely be sold out by the time of the event.

Many committed locals and daily commuters plan on making the up to hour-long journey from their parking or residence, as they have done in previous years. If you plan on doing this, exercise caution as some parts of downtown Orlando are keen to take advantage of the large influx of tourists on foot. If traveling on foot, stay in a large group if possible and keep an eye out for any oncoming traffic.

At the end of the night, consider taking a local pedicab back to your car. Many of these bicycle-powered cabs can prove faster than a car in late night business district traffic. There are also a plethora of rentable scooters and bicycles in the downtown area if you'd like to skip the walk after a day of dancing,

No matter how to get there or how you leave, make sure you have a safe and electric time!
