2021 Hurricane Season: Be prepared

Weathering storms is a part of every Floridian’s life. Each year we are reminded of the potential effects of a hurricane’s direct hit on our state. Flooding, power outages, and structural damage may create urgent—and in some cases—life-threatening situations.

As the 2021 Hurricane Season begins, please take a few minutes to review some of the mandatory supplies, procedures for evacuation and information on sheltering in place.

Build a disaster preparation kit
Please see below for common items to add to your disaster kit. 

  • One gallon drinking water per person/day
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Cash in case of power loss/ no ATM
  • Medication, personal toiletries
  • Flashlights and extra batteries
  • Identification and important documents
  • Food and medication for your pet
    First aid supplies

Be prepared for the shelter
During hurricane season, many residents utilize their local shelters. While some shelters provide minimal supplies, it is important to note some essential items to bring with you.

Suggested shelter supplies:

  • Pillows, blankets, air mattresses
  • Non-perishable food items and water
  • Medication, personal toiletries
  • Extra clothing, shoes, socks
  • Identification and important documents
  • Games or entertainment
